I am excited to be showing a selection of my marine narratives at Sam Shaw’s Gallery in Northeast Harbor, Maine from August 27 through October 31, 2026, comprised of monoprints and plain air paintings on paper in diptych and triptych format.

Michael Torlen

August 27 – October 30    OPENING RECEPTION AUGUST 27, 5 -7 PM

Michael’s father was a commercial tuna fisherman in San Diego, California. Torlen worked with his Norwegian, immigrant father and learned about the hardships and dangers of the ocean first-hand. In his monoprints, and water-based paintings, this visceral aspect and drama play out in colors and associations. The toil of men at sea is thousands of years in the making, reverently documented in these stirring autobiographical images.
